TOPSHAM — The Camden Hills varsity boys soccer team hit the road Tuesday, Oct. 5 to challenge Mount Ararat, and found that playing on turf for the first time this season would not impede their electric play. 

Camden Hills found itself up 1-0 after 20 minutes of play when Cam Brown tallied a goal after slipping past a trio of defenders. 

Evan Constantine extended the lead to 2-0 in the second half courtesy a Ben Schenk at the 32 minute mark of the second half. 

Twenty minutes later, at the 5:44 mark, Constantine tallied another goal off a Finley Fitch assist. 

“Things would get interesting when the official awarded a penalty kick to Mt. Ararat after a scrum ensued after a corner kick and a Camden player was charged with a foul,” said Camden Hills head coach Ryan Hurley.

Each team in the second half was awarded a pair of yellow cards. 

The host Eagles scored a pair of goals nearly back-to-back as Sebastian Varella buried the free kick before Sean Rethi tallied a goal a minute later. 

To secure the victory, Brown tallied yet another goal, courtesy another Schenk assist, to make it a 4-2 victory. 

Henry Pharris recorded six saves on 12 shots while J. Fullerton made 12 saves on 21 shots for the hosts. Camden Hills held the edge in corners 8-6.

“Today felt like a playoff game and I think the team responded really well,” said  Hurley. “Mt. Ararat came out and played with a lot of heart and moved the ball well on their new turf field. Tonight was our first game of the season on turf and I thought we adjusted really well and played a good game. We have the toughest schedule in the league and these games will hopefully bode well for us being prepared to make a run in the postseason. We will savor the victory, as it's a big one, and start anew tomorrow preparing for our homecoming tilt against Oxford Hills on Saturday.”
