BANGOR — The Camden Hills varsity boys soccer team hit the road Wednesday, Sept. 30 to challenge Bangor, and returned to the Midcoast after a hard fought contest that ended in a 1-1 draw.

“Today was definitely a challenge to drive up to Bangor and try and perform after playing a full game against Skowhegan the day before,” said Camden Hills head coach Ryan Hurley. “For almost all of our players it was their first ‘under the lights in Bangor’ experience and they performed really well. Coach Erb really had his players ready to play today and it was a battle of two top teams.”

Eli Herzog scored for the Rams in the 13th minute and Elijah Stone, thanks to a Sam Brownawell assist, answered for the Windjammers at the 15th minute.

Shots were fairly even with the Rams attempting 14 shots and the Windjammers attempting 11 shots.

The Bangor side held the edge in corner kicks 8-5.

After losing its first and second string goalies due to collisions during the Skowhegan game, Eben Wieslogel turned in what Hurley called “an impressive effort” in the goalie net for the Windjammers in his first varsity start making five saves while Trey Bourassa made several key saves on the way to four quality saves.

“Although we had fewer chances on paper I felt like our chances were of better quality,” Hurley said. “There was lots of slipping and sliding as there always is at night in Bangor and that definitely didn't help us in our attack. It doesn't feel great to get a tie but it's not a bad result for a young squad gaining experience.”
