Camden Hills Alpine and Nordic Skiing compete in weekend events
FRYEBURG and GREENWOOD — Over the weekend, the Camden Hills Alpine ski and Nordic ski teams competed at races, both squads second respective races of the season.
For the Alpine ski team, they traveled to Mount Abram Friday, Jan. 9, while the Nordic ski team traveled to Fryeburg and competed at Stark’s Hill Saturday, Jan. 10.
The Nordic ski meet was scheduled to be hosted at Leavitt High in Turner, but the school’s home course did not have a sufficient amount of snow, prompting the change of venue.
Alpine Skiing
In the boys race, David Flint finished with a time of 1:03.9 (26th), Thatcher Chamberlin finished at 1:04.4 (27th) and Adam Throne finished at 1:04.7 (28th).
In the girls race, Lydia Morin finished at 1:02.41 (10th), Ella Simon at 1:03.19 (13th), Audrey Heriz-Smith at 1:05.02 (19th), Renaissance Lyman at 1:05.14 (20th) and Zoe Zwecker (24th), Brynne Wrona at 1:08.62 (30th), Samantha Zwecker at 1:08.73 (31st), Molly Mann at 1:09.38 (32nd). Other finishers included Catherine Dailey at 1:17.64, Raine Ellison at 1:20.51, Abby Chamberlin at 1:22.12 and Sophie Moore at 1:25.48.
Nordic Skiing
In the Nordic race, many of Camden Hills’ new skiers participated in their first classic race, completing their first 5K race.
The girls team finished in 11th place out of 18 competing schools with senior Audrey Lane being Camden Hills’ top skier, who finished 37th in the girls race.
With a number of the veteran boys unable to be at the race, the team placed 16th out of 18 teams.
Junior Shawn Albertson was Camden Hills’ top boy skier with a finished time of 19:30.3 in 78th place overall in the boys race.
Other finishers for the boys included Madison Jordan at 19:55.3 (82nd), Marley O’Neil at 20:32.3 (93rd), Theodore Laurita at 20:40.6 (96th), Adam Throne at 21:04.3 (100th), Nicholas LeClerc at 21:20.6 (102nd) and Thomas McClellan at 24:28.0 (133rd).
Other finishers for the girls included Emma Trapani at 21:18.6 (51st), Alexandra Dobbins at 22:46.1 (67th), Emily Bowen at 23:07.7 (74th), Victoria Arau at 23:58.2 (82nd), Abby Chamberlin at 24:53.2 (94th), Sadie Allen at 24:54.5 (95th), Katie Moody at 25:45.3 (105th), Erin Dowd at 25:57.3 (106th), Claire Pierce at 26:47.1 (111th), Raine Ellison at 27:39.3 (115th) and Suzannah Gray at 29.07.2 (122nd).
