Camden firefighters, EMTs help woman off mountain
CAMDEN — Five Camden firefighters and two emergency medical technicians helped carry a woman with an ankle injury down from a mountain trail to a waiting ambulance this afternoon, Jan. 2.
The firefighters and North East Mobile Health Services EMTs responded to the call just before 2 p.m. after hikers with the woman, in her 20s, called 911, the Knox County Regional Communications Center in Rockland, for help.
The group of hikers had set out on a walk up Megunticook Mountain, and were approximately one-tenth of a mile from the Mt. Battie Service Road, when the woman sprained or broke her ankle.
An EMT called for additional hands, and the firefighters responded, carrying the woman down in a Stokes basket, a rescue stretcher. She was subsequently transported to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.
In 2014, the Camden Fire Department assisted North East Mobile Health Services in seven separate incidents that involved carrying out injured hikers from Camden Hills State Park. The injuries were primarily due to ankle and leg injuries.
Today’s marks the first for 2015.
