Camden crash injures teenage passenger
CAMDEN — A rear-end accident on Elm Street Wednesday afternoon totaled a car and injured a 13-year-old passenger.
Camden Police Officer Allen Weaver Jr. said that Gail Vincent, 72, of Warren, was driving a 2002 Subaru Outback when she had to stop for someone in front of her making a turn.
Vincent was traveling south on Elm Street (Route 1) in front of Party Fundamentals. Traveling behind her was Patty Freeman, 37, of Searsport, in a 1996 Toyota Corolla sedan.
Freeman crashed into the back of Vincent's sport utility vehicle, causing the front airbags to deploy. Weaver said Freeman's son, Michael, 13, sustained facial and a hand injury when the airbag deployed.
"He was wearing glasses and he hyperextended his thumb," said Weaver.
Vincent told police the car in front of her stopped suddenly, and so did she, but that it drove off after before she could get a license or description.
"The other car probably didn't realize there had been a crash behind them," said Weaver.
Michael Freeman was treated at the scene for his injuries. The two drivers were not injured.
Weaver said the Toyota was totaled and towed from the scene and the Subaru sustained about $3,000 damage.
