Camden Conference and 'Ukraine and the Survival of Democracy in Europe'
ROCKLAND — The Camden Conference and Rockland Public Library present intelligence veteran Bill Hall discussing "Ukraine and the Survival of Democracy in Europe" on Thursday, Jan. 9, from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. This free hybrid event is open to all. For Zoom access, please contact: elewis@rocklandmaine.gov.
"The outcome of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine seems a bellwether for the survival of democracy in Europe," said Camden Conference, in a news release.
This talk will examine democracy’s status and prospects in eastern/central Europe as it relates to Ukraine’s future as an independent nation.
"A solidly democratic neighborhood for Ukraine would strengthen Ukraine’s position in the fight and in the eventual peace talks – and perhaps restrain Moscow from further attempts to rebuild the Russian empire," said the release.
Hall served as a U.S. Air Force intelligence officer from 1969-1999, with extensive deployments across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. A Princeton University graduate in politics with a master's in foreign affairs from the University of Virginia, he currently serves on the Camden Conference board and previously led the World Affairs Council of Maine. He resides on Peaks Island.
This presentation is hosted by the Rockland Public Library and offered as a free community event in anticipation of the 38th Annual Camden Conference – Democracy Under Threat: A Global Perspective, February 21-23, 2025, live at the Camden Opera House and live-streamed to the Strand Theatre in Rockland, Lunt Auditorium in Falmouth, and to homes and classrooms worldwide.
