Camden alumni to hold 110th banquet
CAMDEN — The Camden High School Alumni Association Board of Directors has finalized plans for the 110th Camden High School Alumni Banquet, Friday, Aug.14, in the Islesboro Ballroom at Point Lookout Resort, 67 Atlantic Hwy. (Rte. 1), Northport. Handicapped parking is available. Anyone who needs a ride should contact David Ames at damesref@tidewater.net or call him at 789-5118.
The evening's events will begin at 4 p.m. with a social hour and silent auction. The cash bar will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. Musical entertainment for the evening will be background music by Sybil Clement Wentworth on the keyboard.
Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. The menu will be garden salad, hot soup du jour, sauteed breast of chicken with prosciutto, leeks and chardonnay cream, baked haddock piccatta, mashed potatoes, chef's selection of fresh vegetables, chocolate tuxedo cake, coffee and tea.
Tables will be reserved for the reunion classes of '45, '50, '55, '60 and '65.
A special honor for the class of '65 will be a visit from their AFS classmate, Karl Kalender, who is coming from Germany to be with his friends for this occasion. Kalender lived with the Paul and Muriel McFarland family during his time here in 1965.
The silent auction will be open throughout the meal with many items donated by local businesses, alumni and anyone wishing to contribute. Proceeds from the auction help defray banquet expenses.
Anyone wishing to donate something of value to the auction should contact Ames at the email address or phone number above. All donations will be greatly appreciated, and can be made at any time through Aug. 13.
Leis will be on sale for $5 again this year for the popular "Heads and Tails" game. Winners will receive bottles of wine. Proceeds from the "Heads and Tails" game help support the scholarship fund.
A short business meeting will follow the meal, during which reunion classes and committee members will be recognized. CHS alumni who have passed away in the last year will be remembered. There will be three Recognition Awards this year.
Winners of last year's scholarships, awarded to Camden Hills Regional High School graduates, are invited to attend, with one guest, to give a brief statement summarizing their first year college experience.
This year's scholarship winners are Eliza Boetsch from Rockport, Nicki Fowlie from Appleton and Ella Scott from Hope.
Tickets are now available for $30 per person by sending a check payable to CHS Alumni Association to Sheila McFarland, 448 Youngtown Rd., Lincolnville, ME 04849. Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope so to mail tickets in. Also, include a brief informational sheet giving year of graduation, maiden name, spouse/guest name, etc..
The cutoff date for ticket sales is Aug. 5. No tickets will be sold at the door.
