Byron Guy Fish, obituary

APPLETON — Byron Guy Fish, 90, died peacefully, Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport following a bout with COVID-Pneumonia.

Born November 3, 1932 in Searsmont, he was the son of Guy Keller and Glenys Drake Fish. Most of his education was in Appleton, and he later attended Morse High School during his junior and senior year, graduating with the class of 1952.

Following graduation, he entered the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Korean War and was later stationed in Florida, Colorado and Louisiana. During his time there he was promoted to Staff-Sargent and earned the Good Conduct medal as well as several other service medals. Under the G.I. Bill, Byron furthered his career in San Antonio, Texas where he studied to be a chiropractor. He later attended Drexel College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1970. Early in his career he worked as a Chiropractor in Texas. Switching careers, Byron was employed as a sales representative of industrial parts for the Kaman Corporation.

Together with his first wife, Ethel Fish, Byron adopted a son, Michael. Later he married Elsie Ryan, a CPA from Delaware. At that time Byron’s family grew by another step-son, George Walker.

He was a member of the American Legion Post in Rockland as well as the Rockland Lodge of Elks and Shriner’s.

Byron will be remembered as a fantastic dancer. He loved going to dances. In his declining health he enjoyed eating at local restaurants, as well as family get-together. He was very close to his brothers, Russell and Arthur Fish. His sister remembers his famous saying of ‘DO YOU FOLLOW ME?’

He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Stanley Fish, Erkie Fish, Donald Fish, Kenneth Fish; a son, Michael Fish; his sisters Dot (Fish) McPheters and Beverly Fish; Byron is survived by his sister Katie Fish Drinkwater; his step-son, George Walker; several niece, nephews and cousins; as well as his lady-friend, Janice Demuth of Burkettville.

A graveside service with military honors will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at 11 a.m., at Pine Grove Cemetery, Sennebec Road, Appleton.
