ROCKLAND — A semi truck driver parked at a weigh station in Rockland got a scare when an out of control pickup truck left the roadway and crashed into the rig’s front tire while the driver was sitting in that rig early Thursday morning.

Two people, including the Northeast Transport driver, received minor injuries from the Dec. 7, 2023 incident that occurred at approximately 1:35 a.m., and rendered both vehicles undriveable.

“They both got lucky tonight,” said Rockland Police Sgt. Scott Redmun in regards to the minor injuries.

The investigation continues into the crash that began when the pickup drove south on Main Street from Maverick Street toward the bend in the road near Good Tern. Instead of yielding to the bend, the pickup continued straight, crossed lanes, entered a parking area, and struck the front tire of the rig.

Rockland Fire and EMS responded to the crash along with police. One person was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center.

Speed and alcohol are being considered as factors in the incident, according to Redmun.

Camden Exxon hauled the pickup truck. Automaster hauled the tractor trailer.

George Carter, 50, of Camden, was charged with Operating Under the Influence (with priors) and Violating Conditions of Release.
