Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) and Friends of Maine Coastal Islands (FOMCI) NWR are sponsoring a new bird watching series called “Bird Time on the Coast.” This series will include local bird experts who are knowledgeable about birds in the area, and will lead trips to some of their favorite bird hotspots along the coast of Maine.

Bird Time on the Coast is open to all birding watching abilities from beginners to advanced. Dates and times have already been established for weekly bird walks in April and May with the first walk being on April 22. Walks will continue through October, so check the FOMCI website or sign up for their e-news to learn about other scheduled walks as they are organized.

Registration is required to participate. Register on the FOMCI website at www.mainecoastislands.org/events. Walks are free and scheduled from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

“The trips are limited to the first 10 people due to covid restrictions, but we hope to increase the size later in the year if the covid numbers go down,” said FOMCI) in a news release.
