Belfast Free Library becomes FamilySearch affiliate library
BELFAST — The Belfast Free Library is now a FamilySearch affiliate library. The designation means local library patrons will now have greater and more convenient access to the wealth of genealogical resources available through FamilySearch, the largest genealogy organization in the world, according to Belfast Free Library, in a news release.
The popular web service FamilySearch has over 6 billion searchable names and 2 billion images of historical genealogical records. It adds over 300 million free genealogical records and images online yearly from all over the world and manages the FamilySearch Library in Salt Lake City. It has amassed billions of birth, marriage, death, census, land and court records from more than 130 countries to help people discover and make family connections.
Patrons may access FamilySearch services and resources for free at FamilySearch.org or through more than 5,000 FamilySearch centers in 129 countries. Affiliate libraries, now including the Belfast Free Library, have access to FamilySearch’s digital genealogical collections that are otherwise accessible only through a FamilySearch family history center. Once at the Belfast Free Library, patrons are now able to use their personal free FamilySearch account to login and view all the records available to an affiliate library at www.familysearch.org.
