In April, the Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition will host several outings and events in Belfast and Searsport.

Mosses, Lichens, Birds and Waterfalls at the Stephenson Preserve," a nature walk on Saturday, April 8, from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Explore the elfin and arboreal forest preserved by Coastal Mountains Land Trust at the Stephenson Preserve. Located on outer High Street in Belfast, it is across the road from the Rail Trail. Its shaded slopes are home to many bird and plant species. Participants should park at the parking lot halfway along the Rail Trail.  Bring binoculars and a hand lens.  FMI: 338-1147

 

Earth Day Hike on Sears Island, Gem of the Midcoast, Saturday, April 22. Choice of length: 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. or 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Explore the wonders of Sears Island on foot. The shorter hike will cover half of the island. For the extended hike, participants will cover more of the island and eat a bag lunch along the way. Both hikes begin together at 10am at the Sears Island causeway gate. Bring water, a bagged lunch, sun, rain, and tick protection, binoculars optional. FMI: 338-1147

 

On Thursday, April 20, BBWC will host a presentation by Cloe Chunn, “Outdoor Fun in Waldo County: What to do and Where to go” on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at 6:30 p.m., in the Abbot Room at the Belfast Free Library. Cloe will highlight adventures on foot, two wheels, and on water in the many and varied regions of Waldo County, suggesting low budget trips that have a low carbon impact. Cloe Chunn, a former high school and college teacher is a naturalist, outdoor writer, and Registered Maine Guide. She is a cofounder of the Maine Master Naturalist Program, the Penobscot River Paddling Trail, and an early board member of BBWC. Her book, Fifty Hikes in the Maine Mountains (W.W. Norton), has been a standard hiking guide for over 30 years. Exploring wild places, sharing them with others, and feeling her connection to Mother Earth are what motivates Cloe.
