ROCKPORT — Through December 31, 2023, Barnswallow Books will be collecting donations for Darrowby Farm Sanctuary under this season’s giving tree, “another stunning 20’ fir tree alight in our barn,” said Barnswallow, in a news release.

“Please consider leaving a donation under our holiday tree on your next trip to our bookshop to select the perfect title for that special someone on your holiday gift list,” said Barnswallow.

Darrowby Farm Sanctuary is a 501(c)3 nonprofit in Jefferson that provides a safe haven and lifelong home for farm animals rescued from abuse and neglect. Currently, sixty animals including pigs, horses, cows, donkeys, turkeys, goats, and other species find sanctuary at Darrowby. They consume over 900 pounds of feed each week. The farm uses 1,400 pounds of hay annually.

“Darrowby Farm Sanctuary has held a special place in the hearts of my family since it began in 2019,” said Linda Lesher, owner of Barnswallow Books. “Anyone who visits the sanctuary cannot help but connect to its animal residents with compassion. We hope our local residents and customers will open their hearts to the many rescues at the farm so they may live out their best lives in this safe haven.”

Holiday bags and buckets are available for placing your Darrowby donations under the giving tree, which was locally sourced in Washington and donated by Stonescapes, Inc. in Rockland. Requested items, for treats and administering medications, include saltines, natural peanut butter, raisins, canned peas (additive free), winter squashes and pumpkins, large carrots, and apple sauce. Healthcare needs include triple antibiotic ointment, saline solution, gauze, Epsom salts, vet wrap, digital thermometers, and Omeprazole.

“Stop by our barn to view our tree, pictures of the lifelong animal residents at Darrowby, and to learn how you can support the residents through a special one-time donation, becoming a monthly patron, or sponsoring a particular animal resident,” said Barnswallow.

Also on Darrowby’s wish list this holiday are a second-hand mini fridge, an electric kettle, and auto-off space heaters. Darrowby merchandise, including calendars and youth and adult T-shirts, is available for purchase.

“Our holiday barn is brimming with seasonal gifts, ornaments, games, puzzles, and specially selected books, so come visit,” said the release.

Barnswallow Books will be donating the proceeds from all sales to Darrowby through the end of the year.
