MONROE — Barbara A. (VanDeusen) Chasser, 68, of Monroe, passed away May 13, 2014, in Bangor. She was born Feb. 3, 1946, in Willimantic, Conn., the daughter of George and Mary (Litts) VanDeusen.

In her younger years, she worked in Connecticut as a certified nurse's assistant. After moving to Maine in the late 1980s to be near family, she worked doing landscaping. Barbara enjoyed crafting, animals, painting and classic country music, as well as tending her home flower and vegetable gardens. One of her greatest loves was spending time with her grandchildren and family.

She is predeceased by her parents; and her husband, Paul E. Chasser in 1994. Barbara is survived by her companion, Robert Torrey; her children, Wayne Ely and his wife, Samantha, of Searsport, Jeffrey Ely of West Hartford, Conn., and Scott Ely of Monroe; her siblings, Eleanor Zacchera, Joe Weeks, Tommy Weeks, Tillie Carter, Shirley Laws, and Janine Covelli; her grandchildren, Jessi, Erin, Makala, Matthew and Sapphire; and her special friends, Carl and Arlene Lenzo and Joe and Sally Davis.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, May 18 at 3 p.m. at Riposta Funeral Home in Belfast.
