PORTLAND — Arnold L. Craney, 54 of Portland, passed away on October 4, 2023, at Maine Medical Center in Portland with his loving mother by his side. Arnold was born on October 6, 1968, to Hugh and Dorothy (Wuori) Craney.

Most people knew Arnold as Grey Wolf, which was his Native American name. He was very proud of his Native American heritage. He was part Mi’kmaq and Passamaquoddy. Arnold loved anything to do with the outdoors.

Arnold was predeceased by father, Hugh Craney Sr; his grandparents Lester and Grace Simmons and Austin and Helen Wuori and Cora Webster.

Arnold is survived by his mother, Dorothy Craney of Belfast; children Corissa Craney, Heather Craney and Shane Craney all of Bangor; grandchildren Isaac, Gabriella and Jay-Lynn; brother, Hugh D. Craney Jr.; sister, Sue Ellen McAuliffe; aunts Margaret Brown and husband Randy of Warren, Genie Pease of Appleton; uncles Raymond Simmons and wife Carol of Nobleboro, Ira Simmons of China and Chris Allen Craney of Thomaston; nieces Nichole Mayhew and husband Brian, Mercades Landry and partner Jessie, Andrea, Carrie and Kim, nephews, Lester Jr, Anthony, Chris and Aaron.

Many thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff who were there for Arnold and his mother, Dorothy, during this sad time.
