WALDOBORO — Looking for some motivation? The Waldo Theatre is offering a series of Adult Acting Workshops this winter on the first Saturday of each month with instructor Teralyn Reiter.

“Whether you’re a beginner or looking to brush up on your performance skills, Teralyn can help you build proficiency and gain confidence,” said The Waldo, in a news release.

As a Teaching Artist, instructor Teralyn holds an MFA in Acting. She has worked with the Educational Theatre Association, developed online lessons for The Kennedy Center, and received a National Artist Fellowship from the Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts.

The first Workshop is Tackling the Monologue on Saturday, January 7, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. This 3-hour workshop will have participants diving into monologues from well-known plays and discovering how to bring believable characters to the stage. Participants will engage in interactive games that will foster creative and strong physical choices, which are critical performance tools.

Saturday, February 4, Captivating Scenes Workshop will demonstrate how the beats and rhythm of a scene can bring an audience to laughter and/or tears while working on scenes from well-known playwrights.

The March 4 topic is Developing Original Work. Participants will bring in a favorite poem, song, or piece of literature to use as a catalyst to create a brand new piece of work as you discover how to turn a piece of writing you love into an original performance.

The cost to attend each workshop is pay-what-you-can, based on a sliding scale from $25-$50.

“For a three hour, professionally taught, in-person workshop that’s a real bargain!” said the release.

Advance registration is required for the workshops: visit thewaldotheatre.org for details and to enroll in one or more sessions.

There will also be a series of bi-weekly table readings open to adults of both new and well-known plays, beginning January 21. These are offered on a drop-in basis, free of charge, and do not require registration. The scripts will vary week to week, dependent upon the preferences of those who attend.

“Together with the workshops, they’re the perfect way to get ready to audition in March for The Waldo’s first play of the season, soon to be announced,” said the Waldo.
