THOMASTON — Pope Memorial Humane Society (PMHS) has received a $75,000 matching gift from Martine Richard LaBrie and Dr. Henry LaBrie of Friendship. This opportunity allows community members to double their impact and help PMHS raise $150,000 for the Sherman Medical Fund.

The Sherman Medical Fund was created in 2020 to honor Sherman, the kitten, and his siblings. Rescued from a fire at just four weeks old, these tiny fighters needed immediate medical care for burns, smoke inhalation, and singed fur.

“Thanks to dedicated staff and generous donors, Sherman and his siblings flourished and were adopted into loving homes,” said PMHS, in a news release. “The fund ensures the same lifesaving treatment is available to all homeless pets facing medical challenges. The LaBrie's matching gift presents an incredible opportunity. Every dollar donated to the Sherman Medical Fund through this opportunity will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $75,000. This means contributions have double the impact, providing essential medical care to homeless pets in need.”

"We're incredibly thankful to the LaBrie's for their generous contribution to the Sherman Medical Fund," said Tracy Sala, Executive Director of Pope Memorial Humane Society. "Their support directly translates to saving lives and improving the well-being of countless animals in need. Moreover, their matching gift empowers community members, amplifying the impact of their donations. Thank you for making such a profound difference!"

PMHS relies on the compassion of our community to fulfill its mission. With your contribution, matched by LaBrie's, PMHS can ensure that homeless pets get necessary medical care, according to the release.
