10 year-old arrested after bringing firearm to Monroe school
MONROE — A ten year-old juvenile has been arrested for bringing a firearm to Monroe Elementary School, according to a release from Waldo County Sheriff Jason Trundy.
The child, who is not being identified, reportedly came to the attention of law enforcement at 8:52 a.m. today, when a school staff member reported the situation, requesting law enforcement come to the school to “render the situation safe,” by seizing the weapon and detaining the student.
No injuries were sustained to anyone during the incident and there is no ongoing threat. The juvenile was transported to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Department following their arrest.
Both the Sheriff’s Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, are actively investigating the incident, according to the release.
