With the beginning of school quickly approaching, the teachers and staff at The Study Hall have been working to finalize curriculum outlines and scheduling of the new learning pods. There was not yet been an official schedule for the pods due to lack of enrollment. They want to make sure they are flexible enough to meet the needs of the enrolled students, especially those who are hoping to meet on the days they are not in school. No matter what, there are plans to offer both morning and afternoon sessions, its just a matter of what students will meet at what time.

Katey Smith (math tutor and office manager) has been at the head of the learning pod development and integration. "We are all very excited about this new service, and we really think it will be beneficial for our community. Our mission is to help students make the most of their education, and now is the time to really step up and try new things."

Learning Pods has become somewhat of a craze these past few weeks as parents face the uncertainty of what school will look like come fall. Here in Maine we are lucky that our numbers have remained fairly low, especially compared the rest of the country. This is allowing students the opportunity to get back to school, but who knows how long it will last. This is why the Study Hall is working to set up programs that can work along side with whatever education plan the student has, and will remain in effect even if the schools transition into fully remote like they did last spring.

Some of these service include the fore mentioned learning pods, which will allow students to still have the opportunity to work with other students, but in a smaller and more controlled environment. They will be working on mastering the common core standards and building a strong foundation in both literacy and math. There is also one-on-one tutoring which is more individual based and focuses on just your child's needs. If you have a few students in the same grade that want to do group tutoring, we can also make that work--it's like a private learning pod! 

The Study Hall also partners with Online Learning Coaches, which is an organization that takes over the parental duties associated with remote learning. This service is most beneficial to those with working parents who just don't have the time to monitor their child and make sure they are getting their work done. With the Online Learning Coaches, a coach will check in with their child daily to keep them on track and accountable--one of the biggest struggles students faced with the sudden transition last spring. Not only with the coach check in daily, but they can also help with understanding assignments and content, help establish organization skills, and provide a comprehensive report to the parents on what was accomplished. 

No matter what your needs are, The Study Hall can help your child succeed this fall, despite the uncertainties we are all facing. This is a proposed schedule for the learning pods, but everything is subject to change depending on the students enrolled. (Please note that this is a rolling enrollment, meaning there is no official deadline. If you need to meet specific scheduling needs then you want to enroll sooner rather than later. It is easier to adjust a schedule in the beginning than in the middle of the year.)

Private Tutoring will take place in Evenings, on Friday, and over the Weekend

Group A--Beginning Learners (K-2)

Group B--Emerging Learners (2-4)

Group C--Intermediate Learners (4-6)

Group D--Advanced Learners (6-8)

Students will take a mask/bathroom break every 30 minutes (staggering between the two classes)

At the beginning of every month, The Study Hall plans to release the learning goals they are targeting. For example, Katey Smith (the math teacher) provided her curriculum outline for the month of September.
