CAMDEN — An employee of Archangel Computers, in Camden, was arrested July 21 and charged with Class C felony theft using Square billing software.

Detective Curt Andrick said July 31 that Jeremy Robinson, 23, of Rockland, had been arrested and transported to Knox County Jail in Rockland following an investigation into billing practices at the downtown Camden computer store.

Andrick said Robinson had allegedly been transferring payments from customers using credit cards and the Square software on smart phones. The payments did not enter the company accounts; rather, they landed in Robinson’s personal account, said Andrick.

Square scans the card number and payments are dropped into specified bank accounts.

Andrick said approximately $2,500 had been diverted to Robinson’s account.

“Customers were thinking that they were paying the company,” said Andrick.

Bail had been set at $2,500, which Robinson met the same day he was arrested, said Andrick.

The victim was the company, he said, not customers.
