Grasshopper Shop brightens up Main Street, Rockland, with landscaping

ROCKLAND — With the summer fast approaching — no that is not a joke — it is Memorial Day Weekend and stores have started sprucing up the storefronts, including the Grasshopper Shop.
All the work there was done by Meghan and Emily Lane, two employees of the shop. Meghan will be heading to University of Maine Orono in the fall to study music while Emily will be transferring to Northeastern University in Boston.
Sierra Dietz, coowner of the Grasshopper Shop, is pleased.
“We thought it was time to freshen up our storefront,” said Dietz. “Get rid of all the cigarette butts and sand left over from a long winter.”
Dietz said they would be putting some new plants in, and new stones and decorations. She said that while the city sweeps the road, the sidewalks are the responsibility of the landlord or tenant, not the city.
The Lane sisters finished up the project and as the top photo shows, there is a new beautiful section of Main Street in downtown Rockland.
