Knox County Girl Scouts attend annual Founders Dance
On October 26, thirty-one Girl Scouts representing six troops from around Knox County, their friends and siblings converged on St. George School in Tenants Harbor for the annual Founder’s Day dance. The girls represented all levels of Girl Scouts, from Daisy to Ambassador at this Roaring 20’s themed event. The dance celebrated and honored Juliette Gordon Lowe, whose birthday is October 31. They had a fun evening dancing to their favorite songs and learning the Charleston, a 1920’s favorite.
Juliette Gordon Lowe, (1860-1927) founded the Girl Scouts USA in 1912. She imagined a program where all girls could come together and embrace their unique strengths and passions while unlocking their full potential and raising their confidence. Today’s Girl Scouts continue those founding principles; they connect with their communities, get outdoors, challenge themselves, and find ways to make the world a better place.
Illustrating their connections with community, Knox County Girl Scouts continued a 20-year tradition at the dance of donating $200 toward a gift card they will give to the family of the first baby girl born at Pen Bay Medical Center closest to founder Juliette Gordon Lowe’s birthday on October 31. As of November 4, they are still waiting on that baby.
