Take the time, Camden and Rockport, to meet and work it out
I would like to say, enough is enough!
Over my 21 years of service to our community I have had the opportunity to work with good people from both Camden and Rockport. We didn't always agree but it was civil.
I don't understand how it got this point. In a short time they [both the Camden and Rockport select boards] have driven a wedge between both towns.
It is time for a time out. It is time to sit at the table and figure it out.
We had a sewer contract for 30 years and for the most part it worked. The contract had its shortcomings, but nothing that couldn't be worked out.
Camden’s wastewater system has plenty of capacity. It was built to handle residential, commercial and industrial uses.
Unfortunately, most of the industrial uses are gone. So this puts us in a position to accept more waste.
We do have system leaks to deal with, and they are being addressed as budgets and time allows.
But that is no reason not to accept Rockport’s waste. The Camden treatment plants benefits both communities, not only environmentally but economically.
I have the most respect for those who serve their communities. I know it can be a difficult job. And the last thing you want is my opinion.
But it's hard not to speak up when I see the direction this has taken. Take the time to meet and work it out. Camden and Rockport had a good relationship and I hope this continues.
Thank you.
