Burnham voters weigh $13 million proposed school budget

BURNHAM — Residents in the Town of Burnham will be tasked with voting on a trio of referendum items related to the RSU 53 school budget Tuesday, June 8. 

Voting will be held from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. within the Town of Burnham. 

Question 1: Shall the MSAD appropriate the sum of $13,029,735 and raise the sum of $5,787,577.87 for the 2021-2022 school budget? School board recommends a YES vote.

The proposed budget is a $40,000 (0.31 percent) increase from last year. 

Note: The actual dollar amounts reviewed at the district budget informational meeting are only available in print and will be posted at polling locations.

Question 2: Shall the district be authorized to appropriate $34,760 for adult education and raise $6,000 as the local share, with authorization to expend any additional, incidental, or miscellaneous receipts in the interest and for the well-being of the adult education program?

Question 3: Do you wish to continue to the budget validation referendum process in MSAD 53 for an additional three years? 

YES: Requires MSAD 53 to continue to conduct a referendum to validate its annual school budget for the next three years. 

NO: Discontinues the budget validation referendum for at least three years and provides instead that the annual school budget shall be finally adopted at a meeting of the voters of MSAD 53.
