RSU 12 proposes 3.6 percent budget increase

    SOMERVILLE — Regional School Unit 12 has proposed school budget for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year will see a slight increase, if approved by voters in June. 

    The district serves residents in the towns of Alna, Chelsea, Palmero, Somerville, Westport Island, Whitefield and Windsor. 

    The district is proposing an increase of 3.6 percent from $22,223,292.38 to $23,022,981.21. 

    Notable changes being made to the budget include the addition of a middle school teacher at Chelsea Elementary School due to an increase of students, three positions have been reduced in the district and tuition increases to accommodate more students and special education tuition.

    The proposed budget will be voted on at local polling places Tuesday, June 11 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
