In support of a proposed single-use bag ordinance

Thu, 10/18/2018 - 8:30pm

Camden voters have the opportunity to take a step toward reducing the impact of plastic on our environment by supporting a proposed single-use bag ordinance on the November ballot.  In order to encourage the use of reusable bags, the mandate bans plastic take-out bags at all retail stores and places a 10-cent fee on paper bags at food stores.  Fourteen Maine towns already have already enacted similar initiatives.  As a Rockport resident, I appreciate the consideration given by my Camden and Rockland neighbors to this important environmental issue and hope that my town will soon join yours in enacting a similar proposal.
