Winterport woman charged in Belfast crash
BELFAST — A Winterport woman turned herself in to Belfast Police Oct. 2 for charges of operating under the influence and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and driving to endanger. The charges stem from an accident Aug. 17, when the vehicle Jennifer Lambeth, 29, was operating crashed on Back Searsport Road.
While the lapse between when the accident occurred and when Lambeth was charged may seem lengthy, Belfast Police said it takes time for lab tests to be completed. Additionally, Lambeth suffered serious injuries in the accident, including a broken back and pelvis, and broken arms and legs.
Lambeth was booked into Waldo County Jail in Belfast, and released on $2,500 unsecured bail.
The accident, which Belfast Police Detective Bryan Cunningham said at the time Lambeth attributed to “overcorrecting” after the wheels of her vehicle left the roadway, left some without power for up to two hours.
Lambeth’s action resulted in the wheels of her Chevrolet Avalanche digging into the side of the road, which caused the vehicle to flip multiple times striking and breaking a utility pole only to roll further. Lambeth, who was not wearing a seatbelt was thrown from the vehicle, while her two young children, aged 10 months and 2 years, remained strapped into their car-seats and received only minor injuries.
Belfast Police said they are unsure whether the children in question are still with Lambeth.
