CAMDEN — Harry Read and his wife, Patty, are this year’s winners of the Megunticook Watershed Association’s (MWA) Holiday Raffle. The prize was a student season’s pass to the Camden Snow Bowl.

The Reads were surprised and delighted to win the pass and wanted to “pay it forward” to a deserving student who wanted to ski, but whose family couldn’t afford a season’s pass, according to MWA, in a news release

Beth Ward, the Snow Bowl general manager, said that the pass will be given to the Ragged Mountain Ski Club Youth Scholarship Program, according to MWA.

The Holiday Raffle raised money to support the MWA’s conservation programs including the Student Watershed Stewards Program and LakeSmart. The Watershed Stewards Program educates students on the environmental threats to the waters and teaches them tools to combat those threats.

The LakeSmart program promotes best practices to reduce pollution in the waters, according to MWA. MWA community volunteers advise area landowners on simple, common sense methods to reduce stormwater runoff into lakes, ponds, and streams.

“The neighbor-to-neighbor transmission of information is the key that motivates behavior change,” said the group.

About the Megunticook Watershed Association (MWA): The MWA is devoted to environmental preservation and improvement. We’re hard at work to maintain and better the quality of the Megunticook Lake, Megunticook River, Norton Pond, Moody Pond and their feeder streams in Knox and Waldo counties.
