Watts Hall Community Players announce cast of The Drowsy Chaperone
Watts Hall Community Players brings the Tony Award-winning musical The Drowsy Chaperone to life this summer. Performances run June 27 through July 6 for this "madcap love letter to the musicals of the 1920s," according to Community Players, in a news release.
This “musical within a comedy” opens with the enigmatic Man in the Chair, played by James Cook, who invites the audience into his living room—and his imagination—by dropping the needle on his favorite cast album. As the record spins, a delightful and delirious 1928 musical springs to life.
The cast is full of big personalities and bigger laughs, according to the Players. Starring AnnMarie Lowerre as glamorous bride-to-be and Follies star Janet Van de Graaff, and Jack Sullivan as her dashing roller-skating fiancé Robert, Jo Lindsay sways and slurs as the scene-stealing Drowsy Chaperone, while Alaina Zyhowski scurries as George, the best man with the most on his plate.
Andrew Lipman charms all as the over-the-top Adolpho, while Maria Keeler and Gwen Sauvage are undercover gangsters perfecting their pastry puns. The mayhem continues with Lynna Pallas Henderson as the quirky Mrs. Tottendale and Peter Henderson as her ever-dry butler Underling, while Gordon Page and Lisa Millette tangle showbiz with sabotage as Mr. Feldzeig and Kitty. To top it off Jenny Baxter saves the day as Trix the Aviatrix.
The ensemble—playing reporters, chorus girls, clouds, and more—features Scout Bookham, Jeannie Connors, Lucia Elder, Sue Ferra, Chloe Keller, Kimberly Krejsa, Ivy Aliza Ladd, Lora Laffan, Tina Magnoli, Andy Marshall, Isabella Navarro, Roro Roberts, and Emily Vigneron.
"Whether you're a longtime musical theater fan or brand new to the stage, this riotous romp of mistaken identities, tap-dancing, and nostalgic hilarity is sure to delight all ages," said Players.
Watts Hall Community Players offers family-friendly, multi-generational productions where everyone can find their place—on stage or behind the scenes.
