SEARSPORT — Upstream Watch members and supporters are meeting at Sears Island in Searsport, Thursday, December 10, at 12:30 p.m., to assist in cleaning up plastic. The waste spill occurred from a ship docked at Mack Point that neglected to secure a large shipment of baled trash bound for PERC.

The DEP has been contacted and the staff at Sprague have been alerted to the situation.

“We are encouraging anyone who can help to join us Thursday. If this had been a spill from mercury laden dredged materials, there’s little concerned citizens could do to help, but with plastic we can pick up the pieces that reach shore,” said Amy Grant, of Upstream.

CDC guidelines for Covid 19 should be followed by all participants. For more information: learn@upstreamwatch.org, 207-491-6839.
