Vinalhaven eyes $4.7 million proposed school budget

VINALHAVEN — Voters in the Town of Vinalhaven are being asked to give their input on a proposed $4.7 million school budget for the upcoming school year. 

A public hearing for the budget will be held virtually Tuesday, June 1 at 6 p.m. with viewing information to be made available on the school’s website and Facebook page.

The election will be held Tuesday, June 8. 

Article 1, Budget: Shall MSAD 8 appropriate the sum of $4,730,097.19 and raise the sum of $3,851,731.74 for the 2021-2022 school budget? The school board recommends a YES vote. 

Regular Instruction: $1,571,287.28
Special Education: $946,362.97
Career and Technical Education: $3,921.30
Other Instruction: $135,587.52
Student and Staff Support: $317,197.85
System Administration: $271,603.24
School Administration: $297,378.12
Transportation and Buses: $34,479.05
Facilities Maintenance: $508,025.87
Debt Service and Other Commitments: $638,568.74
All Other Expenditures: $5,685.25

Article 2, Cost Center Transfers: Shall the school board be authorized to transfer amounts exceeding 5% of the total appropriation for any cost center to another cost center or among other cost centers provided transfers shall not be permitted to increase the authorized total school budget? School board recommends a YES vote. 

Article 3, Nutrition Program: Shall the district be authorized to raise and appropriate $127,309.55 for the school nutrition program? School board recommends a YES vote. 

Article 4, Adult Education: Shall the district be authorized to appropriate $4,423.12 for adult education and raise $4,423.12 as the local share? School board recommends a YES vote. 

Article 5, CTE Region Budget: Shall the Region 8 career and technical education operating budget be approved in the amount of $5,446,304? The district’s share of the Region 8 budget, including debt service, is $55,357.04. School board recommends a YES vote. 

Article 6: CTE Region Adult Education: To see if Region 8 will appropriate $236,200 for adult education and raise $89,000? The district’s share of Region 8’s adult education budget is $2,244.36. School board recommends a YES vote.
