UPDATED: Young child flown to hospital following fall into Friendship pool

    FRIENDSHIP — Update: A spokesperson for the Maine State Police has confirmed that a toddler who was found in a Friendship pool remains hospitalized as of Thursday evening,  Jan. 9.

     

    On the morning of January 7,  at approximately 9:30 a.m., Knox Regional Communication Center received a 911 call reporting that a 14-month-old child had fallen into a pool at a residence on the Cushing Road in Friendship.

    According to Knox County Sheriff’s Office, in a news release, the Maine Attorney General requires that any child that is less than three years old, and involved in a serious event, be investigated by the Major Crimes Unit. The Maine Major Crimes Unit was notified of the event and is taking responsibility for the investigation.

    KCSO deputies and emergency medical service providers immediately responded to the scene following the 911 call.

    Upon arrival, first responders found family members providing life saving care to the child, according to the KCSO. Emergency Medical Technicians immediately began treatment and were able to stabilize the child for transport to Pen Bay Medical Center and ultimately on to Maine Medical Center.

    KCSO was assisted by Knox Regional Communications, Waldoboro EMS, Pen Bay Medical Center, and LifeFlight of Maine.
