Firefighters respond to Depot Street in Union for daytime fire
UNION — "We had plenty of water," said Union Fire Chief Jesse Thompson. "It was manpower that we needed."
Prior to 12 p.m., Monday, Jan. 13, 2025, a passerby reported smoke rising from the eaves of 906 Depot Street, in Union. The owners were not home at the time.
Multiple requests for SCBA-trained personnel ultimately led to responses by Rockport, Waldoboro, Washington, Appleton, and Warren to battle flames within the house.
Meanwhile, electricity was turned off in the area for the safety of fire operations.
The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen area, though the actual origin was not immediately known. The search continued after 1 p.m. for the animals of the house.
Most mutual aid units were back at their home stations by 2 p.m.
