Thomaston reopens search for police chief
THOMASTON — The Town of Thomaston is reinstating its search for the next Chief of Police following the resignation of John Palmer. Palmer had been in the role officially since Aug. 12, 2024.
According to Town Manager Kara George on November 4, 2024, Palmer gave his resignation on October 28, 2024, and will return to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, where he has worked for the majority of his 18 years in law enforcement prior to joining Thomaston.
“It came as a surprise to all of us because he is doing an excellent job as Police Chief,” said George, in an email. “We hate to see him leave.”
Palmer's last day will be November 10, 2024. He is leaving for personal reasons, according to George.
The job position was posted November 4, 2024.
