10 REASONS TO VOTE YES ON SAD 28 DISTRICT REFERENDUM QUESTION 1, Mary E Taylor School:

A YES vote will preserve and modernize this Camden landmark and repurpose for another 100 years of life and service to our community.  Bond payments will not begin until the restoration works begins in 2020.

NO vote will tear down the MET – gone forever, added to landfill.

MET is a centerpiece of the character of Camden – thousands of Camden residents have spent important formative years of their lives at MET since its opening in 1926.

The main floor will be updated for a permanent and expanded location of the Zenith Program and adult education.

The top floor will provide long-needed SAD 28 administrative offices – they will move out of the bus barn which will regain needed bus garage space.

The basement level will provide open space for multiple community uses and lease income opportunities.

The building will be updated to 2020 ADA, safety, security, environmental, and energy standards and will continue to be a prime location of community and school activities for decades to come.

If MET is demolished, the needs for Zenith, SAD offices, and open space for future activities will not go away and will likely be back on the ballot within a couple years at greater costs.

MET preserves a piece of Camden’s history.  What if the citizens had allowed the Camden Opera House to be demolished, what if the Post Office was not preserved?  

There is only one opportunity now to save the Mary E Taylor School building, and this is by voting YES on Question 1.
