ROCKLAND — A St. George man remains in jail on $2,500 cash bail after police say he struck another man with a lamp.

William Skelton, 33, was charged with aggravated assault on Nov. 26 by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. He made his initial appearance in Knox County Unified Court before Judge Susan Sparaco on Nov. 27.

Deputies responded to a residence in St. George on the evening of Nov. 26 after receiving a report that two men were in a physical altercation, according to the affidavit filed in court.

Police interviewed the victim and a witness and determined that Skelton was the aggressor and allegedly attacked the other man about a conversation that happened earlier in the day. The fight began when Skelton came out of his room and pushed over the chair the victim was sitting in while he was watching television.

During the fight, the victim fought back and Skelton allegedly grabbed a lamp and struck him in the head, according to the court document.

The victim and Skelton were both taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport and were treated for their injuries.

Police then transported Skelton to the Knox County Jail.

Skelton will appear in court again on Jan. 25.
