Special agent seizes computers, phones in Hope child porn investigation
HOPE — In mid-March, an investigator with the federal Homeland Security agency obtained a warrant from a U.S. District Court judge to search a home in Hope for evidence of child pornography.
The request and affidavit were filed March 18, and on March 20, the investigator went to the home and seized two cell phones, three laptop computers, three desktop computers, and a memory card. The affidavit outlined the process of computer forensics, which could take weeks or months, and its use in broader child pornography investigations.
The special agent said in his affidavit that undercover investigators based in California engaged last January with a person online. The investigators then traced the Internet address to Hope.
No charges have been filed.
