CAMDEN — The Friends of Music Concert Series, an outreach program of The First Congregational Church of Camden, presents April Reed-Cox and Matt Mainster performing together Sunday, Nov. 5, at 4 p.m., in the church sanctuary at 55 Elm Street.
April Reed-Cox, cello, and Matt Mainster, piano, will perform Shostakovich’s wild and wonderful cello sonata, along with selections by Bach, Handel, Boccherini, and a new work by British composer, Luke Faulkner.
“Each piece is highly ‘affecting’…When asked why he chose to include the Faulkner in the program, Mainster said,” in a Church news release. “From the moment I heard it, Faulkner’s ‘Dance of the Shadows’ struck me as the perfect pairing with the Shostakovich. No doubt they share a similar aura; but where Shostakovich’s sonata explores ‘shadows’ with tumultuous complexity, the Faulkner delves into impressionism. Put another way, Shostakovich is in the trenches while Faulkner’s spinning around a ballroom by candlelight.”
