Sen. Chris Johnson appointed to Government Oversight committee
AUGUSTA — Maine Senate President Michael Thibodeau (R-Waldo) has announced senate committee assignments for the 127th Legislature, including Sen. Chris Johnson (D-Lincoln), who will serve on the Government Oversight committee.
The Maine Legislature has 17 standing committees that meet regularly when lawmakers are in session. Some committees continue to meet after adjournment. The committees are made up of 13 members and will be co-chaired by Republicans who hold the majority in the Maine Senate.
Unlike recent Legislatures, nearly every senator, including members of the majority leadership, will serve on committees. For example, Senate Majority Leader Garrett Mason (R-Androscoggin) will be assigned to the Energy, Utilities, and Technology Committee and Assistant Majority Leader Andre Cushing (R-Penobscot) will continue to be a member of the Labor, Commerce, Research and Economic Development Committee.
Senate President Thibodeau said in a news release: "There is a lot of important work in front of us, and we plan to have a very ambitious agenda. That's why we're looking at the committee work as an 'all hands on deck' situation. I believe that with these committee assignments, the people of Maine will benefit from the legislative experience of both returning Republicans and Democrats and the real world experience of our newly-elected members."
Below are the senate committee assignments for the 127th Maine Legislature.
