Satellite of West Bay Rotary helps clean up new Lincolnville park

The Satellite of West Bay Rotary is working in collaboration with the Town of Lincolnville to bring back into public use and enjoyment Penobscot Park located on the shore of the bay accessed from Route 1 north in Lincolnville.
The park includes a parking area with a bath house, and a sweeping meadow downhill to the shore of Penobscot Bay and attractive picnic and shelter area.
Originally part of the Point Lookout facility of MBNA, the park was given to Coastal Mountains Land Trust and then the Town of Lincolnville swapped a piece of Ducktrap River land for the park in a public vote.
The park has been neglected over the last 15 years, such that brush growth and tree limbs have encroached on the entrance, parking area and bath house.
The Rotarians in the Satellite began in September to clear brush, vines and tree limbs to make the entrance and parking area more visible and accessible. Work will continue in October, to remove substantial juniper overgrown bushes and further enlarge the parking area.
"Town Manager David Kinney has been extremely encouraging, and the selectboard supports this volunteer effort,” said Rotarian Peter Lindquist, of Camden, in a press release. “Our membership is committed to helping make the park a useful, accessible part of the park offerings in Lincolnville"according to Satellite chair Peter Lindquist of Camden.
