Rotarians take to Camden streets, picking up trash

CAMDEN — Members of the Satellite of West Bay Rotary Club have been walking the streets of Camden picking up garbage.

Over the past few weeks, as schedules allowed, members went out with safety vests, gloves, plastic bags and pincers collecting trash along town streets including Oak, Mechanic, Mount Battie, Chestnut, Limerock, Union, Mill and High streets, all the way to Camden Hills State Park.

Participants included Cindy Allen, J.P. Fecteau, Abe Dugal and family, and Peter Lindquist and Sarah Ruef-Lindquist, all charter members of the Satellite Club. Midcoast Solid Waste provided the equipment used.

The Satellite meets every second and fourth Thursday of the month, from 5:15 - 6:30 p.m.

Now meeting via Zoom, they host speakers and plan fundraising and community service projects.

In the past year they have provided volunteer labor to paint the bath house at Laite Beach, and help with West Bay projects and fundraisers, and held a Maine-themed trivia contest at the Camden Snow Bowl in January, raising over $1,300 and given to the Shields Mission Project of the First Congregational Church.

The Satellite was launched almost two years ago by members of West Bay Rotary and others wishing to join Rotary but unable to accommodate local club breakfast and lunch meeting times.
