Robert B. Annis, obituary
ROCKPORT — Dr. Robert B. Annis, 91, died peacefully, with his loving family at his side, Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Sussman Hospice House in Rockport.
Born in Camden, August 28, 1933, he was the son of Blake B. and Alice A. Cain Annis. A graduate of Rockland High School, and member of the class of 1952, Bob married his high school sweetheart Jeannine Leach. Together they raised four children.
Following high school, Bob attended Tuffs University before earning his Doctorate in Dental Surgery from Temple University. From there Bob entered the U.S. Navy, serving as a dental surgeon aboard a super-carrier, the U.S.S. Constellation. He was later assigned to Vietnam where he served two tours. There he began his lifelong career of providing dental care to overseas villages, treating those who would usually go without this kind of care. Throughout his storied career, Dr. Annis moved effortlessly between being overseas and stateside, as well as in dental administration and chair side practice. After 30 years of service, Dr. Annis retired as a U.S. Navy Captain.
Always one to be active, Dr. Annis was involved in many community activities and boards in all of the communities in which he lived. After marrying Dorothy ‘Dottie’ Blanton in 1994, the two enjoyed summers at the family cottage on Hosmer Pond. In 2006 they returned to his beloved Hosmer Pond area permanently. Here he readily took on the task of serving as a committee member for the U.S. National Toboggan Championship, serving from 2006 to 2020. As told in an article written about him, Bob first rode the chute at the age of 2-1/2 years old in 1936. His father was involved in the building of the chute and lodge in 1935-1936. His last ride was at the age of 90 when he was honored by the committee for his years of service. He was the youngest person ever to ride the chute, and most likely the oldest as well. Dr. Annis was also a member of the Rockport Lodge of Masons.
Dr. Annis was a strong, proud man, never one to look for accolades. He worked hard to provide for his family who was his pride and joy. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
Predeceased by his first wife, Jeannine; he is survived by his wife Dorothy ‘Dottie’ Annis of Rockport; his children, Kevan Annis, Kypp Annis both of Rockland, Kimberly O’Neill and her husband Brian of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Kerrilynn Tashea of Fernandina Beach, Florida; seven grandchildren, Kelly Schoettlin and her husband Kevin, Ryan O’Neill and his wife Heather, Timothy O’Neill and his wife Morgan, Kirsten O’Neill, Brendan O’Neill and his fiancée Angelica Miguel, Hunter Tashea, Logan Tashea and his fiancée Samantha Kushell; eleven great-grandchildren and a large loving extended family.
