Rally by Port Clyde native, Maine Maritime basketball falls short
CASTINE — Maine Maritime men's basketball fell to Fisher College, 95-84 Sunday afternoon in a non-conference matchup.
How it Happened
The Mariners and Falcons traded multiple baskets early on, until the Falcons went on a 13-5 point run to make the score 28-24 with seven minutes left in the first half. The Mariners got back within two points, before Fisher netted 12 straight points to give themselves a 44-30 point lead. The game went into halftime with the Falcons leading 49-34.
The Falcons continued to hold their advantage over the Mariners, until Cameron Kingsbury (Port Clyde, Maine) sparked a 9-2 run to get the Mariners within nine points with 4:18 left in the game. The Falcons answered with eight straight points and held on to claim a 95-84 win over the Mariners.
Inside the Numbers
Curt Heinz (Stuttgart, Germany) came off the bench for the Mariners, netting a double-double with a career high 18 points and 13 rebounds, along with three assists and two steals.
Kingsbury also came off the bench, hitting four threes for a career high 12 points, in addition to two steals, one assist, and one rebound. Markus Ramirez (Colorado Springs, Colo.) added 11 points and two rebounds to the mix.
Chris Lennear and Johnny Ortiz led the Flacons with 18 points each. Lennear added six rebounds as well, and Ortiz chipped in seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
The Mariners shot 44.1% from the hardwood and 32.4% from beyond the arc, while the Falcons shot 48.6% from the floor and 26.1% from three point land.

The Mariners fall to 2-7 overall, while the Falcons improve to 4-8 on the year. Maine Maritime will take a break for the Holidays and return to action on Sunday, January 2 at 3:00pm against Colby College.
