The Poets Corner presents “Disclosures” a reading with poets Kathleen Ellis and Claire Millikin, Sunday, June 11, 2023, from 4 - 5:30 p.m., via Zoom.

Kathleen Ellis will read from Body of Evidence, winner of the 2022 Grayson Books Poetry Contest and Claire Millikin will read from her two books published in the past year, Elegiaca Americana and Transitional Objects. These Maine poets have been friends for more than a decade. In conversation with host Ellen Goldsmith they will share thoughts about common themes of disclosure, exile, and home, and talk about how their books came into being.

“Disclosure is the action of revealing something previously unknown or kept secret, and in many ways Claire and Kathleen both reveal what has been unspoken and surfaced in the act of writing, and in that act of writing, they encourage others to speak out as well,” said Poets Corner, in a news release.

Kathleen Ellis' poetry collections include Body of Evidence, winner of the 2022 Grayson Books Poetry Contest, Outer-Body Travel and Narrow River to the North. Her poems have recently appeared in The Café Review, A Dangerous New World: Maine Voices on the Climate Crisis, and Enough! Poems of Resistance and Protest. A recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Maine Arts Commission, Ellis teaches poetry and creative writing at the University of Maine, Orono and coordinates the annual POETS/SPEAK! event in Bangor. She has taught poetry writing workshops at the Farnsworth Art Museum since 1994.

Claire Millikinis the author of ten collections of poetry, including Elegiaca Americana, published by Littoral Books in 2022, Transitional Objects, and State Fair Animals both published by Unicorn Press. Millikin's poetry books, Motels Where We Lived (2014), Television (2016), and State Fair Animals (2018) have been noted as finalists for the Maine Literary Award and in 2021, she received the Maine Literary Award as co-editor of the anthology Enough! Poems of Resistance and Protest. Her poetry book Dolls (2021) was semifinalist for the PSV Poetry Book Award for North American Publishers and Writers. Millikin teaches American Studies and art history at Bates College and the University of Maine.
