Penobscot Bay YMCA names new board members

    ROCKPORT– At the April 2nd Annual Meeting, the Penobscot Bay YMCA welcomed aboard three new members to its Board of Directors. Joining the board are Rachel Evangelos, James “Jim” M.B. Wickenden, Sr., and Jennifer Lloyd Mirabile.

    Rachel is the Controller for Fisher Engineering, Rockland.  Jim is a private attorney in Camden with Harmon, Jones & Sanford.  Jennifer is Senior Vice President & Managing Director, Wealth Management, Camden National Bank, Camden & Portland.

    “Our Y takes pride in having volunteer leaders direct our path,” comments Melissa Bellew, Penobscot Bay YMCA President & CEO.  “We are humbled by the support of game-changers like Rachel, Jim, and Jennifer joining forces with board, staff, and community to drive impact in the midcoast.”

    The Y also thanked departing board members Jill Delano, Leslie Eaton, Jim Butler, and Jim Bowditch, who combined for over 40 years of service to the YMCA.

    Founded originally in 1913, the Penobscot Bay YMCA started as the Camden YMCA, remaining to this day one of our country’s oldest, continuing, small community YMCAs.  Today, the Penobscot Bay YMCA serves more than 6,600members, ranging from children in our Early Learning childcare program to seniors. Currently, the Y is the largest childcare provider in Knox County, serving about 325 children on a weekly basis through its early learning programs, drop-in care, and before/after-school programs. The Y also offers one of the largest youth sports programs in Knox County, with more than 1200 children participating in swimming, gymnastics, basketball, and recreation programs. In addition to year-round offerings, the Penobscot Bay YMCA also operates the largest summer camp program in Knox County, with1400 registrations in one or more weeks of summer camp last year. The Y also offers aquatics and wellness programs, serves a large senior population with Healthy Seniors fitness classes and monthly social activities.
