P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center debuts new website
ROCKPORT — The former Camden-Rockport Animal Rescue League has been undergoing a bevy of changes this past year, including adopting the new name P.A.W.S Animal Adoption Center, ramping up its $1 million capital campaign to renovate and expand, which includes a public dog park for off-leash activities.
Just this week, the organization — whose mission is to provide a safe, caring environment for homeless and abandoned companion animals until they can be placed into new homes — unveiled a new website crafted by the folks at Adventure Advertising in Rockport.
The revamped P.A.W.S. website boasts lots of photos of dogs and cats and a virtual store to purchase merchandise and event tickets. There's also the requisite cash donation page, but in this case, one can also donate a pair of rabies shots, a female feline neutering operation or a distemper shot for a dog or cat. For those who prefer to donate goods in lieu of cash, there's also a page listing myriad supplies needed to keep the temporary Fidos and Blackies fed, clean and happy. The current wish list includes dog collars, paper towels, Q-tips, wet and dry food, disposable rubber gloves and believe it or not, postage stamps. Yes, it seems these are not your ordinary stray dogs and cats — they like to send letters to Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy, among others.
But seriously, there is a lot that goes into maintaining a thriving shelter and pet adoption center, and P.A.W.S., which contractually serves the communities of Camden, Rockport, Lincolnville, Belfast, Northport, Searsmont, Liberty and Islesboro, welcomes volunteers willing to come in and take a dog for a walk or spend some quality time with a friendly cat.
And one cannot forget the most important of the P.A.W.S. mission, which is to find homes for the dogs and cats that end up at the center. The new website includes information about individual available dogs and cats, as well as information on how to set the pet adoption wheels in motion. For anyone needing a little pick-me-up, the Happy Endings blog tells the stories of recently adopted lucky dogs, lucky cats — and even luckier families.
