BELFAST — A Monroe man has been charged on six counts following a midnight encounter with Belfast Police, according to Sergeant Dan Fitzpatrick. 

Jacob M. Rose, 20, of Monroe, was arrested and charged with eluding an officer, driving to endanger, exceeding the speed limit by 30 mph or more, operating without a license, illegal possession of liquor by a minor via consumption, and illegal possession of marijuana by a minor as a result of the incident. 

The incident, which occurred around 12:20 a.m., Jan. 11, on Swan Lake Ave., began when a vehicle operated by Rose passed a Belfast Police officer already dealing with another driver roadside. Fitzpatrick said that Officer Lew Dyer IV estimated Rose’s vehicle to be traveling between 95-100 mph when it passed him. 

According to Fitzpatrick, Dyer gave chase to the vehicle while maintaining safer speeds. Dyer reportedly thought he had lost the vehicle at first but would get occasional glimpses of the vehicle’s taillights, leading Dyer to believe Rose had turned off his headlights during the pursuit.

Eventually, Dyer was able to catch up with Rose and he was taken into custody without further incident. 

Rose is expected to appear in Waldo County Unified Court Feb. 21.
