WALTHAM, Mass. – For the second time in three weeks, Bentley University freshman forward Tyler McFarland (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills HS) has been named the Men's Basketball Rookie of the Year in the Northeast-10 Conference.
The six-foot-five McFarland earned his latest honor after averaging 17 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 1.5 steals during a 1-1 week that saw him shoot 60 percent from the field. Against Stonehill on Saturday, in a 73-66 win, he made nine of 13 shots en route to a career-best 22 points, and also had nine rebounds, two blocks and a steal.
Earlier in the week, he filled the stat sheet with 12 points, eight rebounds, five blocks and two steals in a one-point loss to Franklin Pierce.
McFarland leads the 5-4 Falcons in both scoring (14.3 per game) and rebounding (8.0), as well as field goals (52), free throws (24) and blocks (14). He had scored in doubles in every game and has the team's three double-doubles recorded thus far this season.
