ROCKPORT — Maria O. Triana Ruiz, 92, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. Born on February 16, 1933, in La Palma, Colombia, and recently passed away in Maine, USA, where she enjoyed many years of retirement.
Affectionately known as “Chiquitita” for her petite stature, María Oliva was beloved by many. She will be fondly remembered for her deep faith, kind heart, and exceptional cooking – she prepared unforgettable meals entirely from memory, never needing a recipe.
In her adult years, she was known as a visionary entrepreneur, who found in real estate investing a path to grow and sustain herself with dignity. Her sharp eye for property opportunities and her wise management made a lasting impact on her life and those around her. She was also a distinguished entrepreneur in the world of beauty salons, known for her great skill and vision. Her industriousness and practical wisdom shaped her journey and inspired others.
She was the eldest of seven siblings, and is survived by two sisters. She spent part of her life with Daniel Cufino, with whom she had two children: Jesús Armando and Luz Estes. Her legacy continues through them, her grandson Paul Estes, and her great-granddaughter Mila Estes. She was also the loving grandmother of Michael Estes, who preceded her in death and is lovingly remembered.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held June 5, at 11 a.m., at St. Bernards Catholic church Rockland; following the service, her ashes will be laid to rest at Coughlin Catholic Cemetery in Rockland, Maine.
