Working in Rockport, Hilary Rackliff initially developed products that would become Moonshine Herbals for her personal and family use. She was seeking alternatives to the chemically-laden, artificially scented, and unnaturally preserved personal care products. As she began to share her discoveries and creations with friends and family, they encouraged her to make them available to others.

"An avid label reader, I questioned what I was putting on my skin, and even more alarmingly on my children’s skin,” she said. “I scoured local shops, co-ops, health food stores and large retailers seeking products with natural, simple ingredients. I found very little and was discouraged by both the quality and the cost, so I went back to the kitchen. There I began working with high quality oils, organic herbs and essential oils. I discovered their benefits, healing properties and interactions and began crafting lotions, creams and salves." Moonshine Herbals was born.
